Access Service
EMIT IT will provide bandwidth to the customer with the local bandwidth and international bandwidth being configured to receive maximum throughput, and delivered down the same circuit between EMIT IT and the customer. EMIT IT delivers the Access service in the Emit IT manner, i.e. Bandwidth is delivered only as a premium service with zero contention. Both local and international components are guaranteed and sold as a 1:1 service.
Local Bandwidth
The EMIT IT local network connects all 8 Leased Line Points of Presence in an actively meshed configuration. Local bandwidth purchased from Emit IT is guaranteed and should never exceed the size of the local Telkom circuit between EMIT IT and the customer. The Emit IT massive community gives all of our leased line clients the opportunity to access the Emit IT content quickly and easily.
International Bandwidth
To connect local Internet networks to the larger Tier one ISPs abroad, local providers have previously been limited to high latency Satellite services and limited capacities on expensive Trans Oceanic cables such as the SAT2 cable. However, high latency connections are no longer sufficient to facilitate Internet based Applications. Since the commissioning of the SAT3 service, the amount of fibre connectivity made available to the Southern African region has made the Emit IT type of service more feasible in terms of cost and availability for the local Internet community. EMIT IT has access to large amounts of bandwidth from various providers on the SAT3 service to provide low latency connectivity to both our New York and London Points of Presents from both Gauteng and Western Cape regions, while at the same time keeping the Satellite service for higher latency services as well as providing redundancy for the Fibre services. EMIT IT has provisioned various Access and VPN services on the SAT 3 & SAT 2 Fibre services to cater for all market sectors in the South African Internet community. International Access bandwidth services can be deployed in one of these three configurations:

Customers taking Access services from EMIT IT can enjoy various additional services that are included with each Internet Access service. These services add tremendous value to the EMIT IT service offering in that all issues surrounding the deployment and management of an Internet connection, as well as Content in the form of Internet utilities and News feeds are available to the customer at no additional cost. These services are:
24*7 Support
EMIT IT has a state of the art customer interaction centre that operates 24 hours a day thereby ensuring that technical assistance is readily available in times of trouble. Each service request is logged tracked and monitored in terms of resolution time and quality thereby ensuring that our clients welfare is always our top priority.
DNS
EMIT IT has a state of the art DNS architecture which spreads as far as London and New York as well as all the major cities of South Africa. Emit IT operates on a system which ensures that Domain Names are resolves locally to ensure a speedier surfing experience.
Telkom Pro-active Notification
EMIT IT maintains its focus on client welfare by proactively monitoring each diginet line that connects into our nodes. Support will automatically pick up when a line is down, log a call with Telkom and manage the resolution of that outage even before the client notifies us that he is unable to connect to the internet.
Value Added Services
EMIT IT has developed additional value added services that improve the customers Internet experience by way of control, bandwidth usage flexibility, and monitoring of Internet traffic to a granular level. These are unique in SA Internet industry and have been introduced to give clients improved management of their access services. The majority of these services have been built with a user-friendly Web interface giving them greater control, access and administration of their services.
Granular Statistics
Granular Statistics is available to provide a detailed traffic analysis of data transferred between the customer and the Internet.
Router Rental and Maintenance
Customers have the option of renting a router from EMIT IT as opposed to purchasing their own Router for Internet Access. EMIT IT will be responsible for the maintenance and configuration of the Router, thus providing the customer with the peace of mind that the Internet connection is managed completely by EMIT IT. EMIT IT will also configure the customer Router in the event of the customer wanting to purchase their own, but cannot be responsible for the maintenance of that Router in the event of failure. EMIT IT provides a wide range of Routers catering for an entry level low speed Internet connection, up to Routers capable of terminating multiple leased circuits, as well as ISDN Back up and ATM services.
Diginet Backup
EMIT IT clients who are concerned of the stability of their local Telkom exchange have also got the option to acquiring a Diginet backup that will connect if their primary diginet line goes down.
Emit IT Customer Portal
In an effort to remain transparent and offer unbeatable service, EMIT IT has dedicated a team of specialists to continuously maintain and upgrade EMIT IT customer extranet. Clients are able to access their information and services via the EMIT IT Customer Portal.
Service Level Agreement
EMIT IT has created a unique Service Level Agreement (SLA) that for the first time in SA allows clients to be fully confident about the commitments made by any ISP. The three parameters surrounding the Access SLA are defined as follows.
1. Availability - Network availability Emit IT measured as the total availability of the network measured over a calendar month.
2. Packet Loss - Packet loss is a measure of packets sent to a destination that do not elicit corresponding return packets; those missing packets are termed lost packets.
3. Latency (Round Trip Delay). The time delay for a packet to travel across the EMIT IT backbone whether locally or internationally.
